Lambourne End, Going Back In Time
The pictures shown here are of the fields, trees and tree wardens assessing the species and ages of the trees

Tree wardens gather together to record some of Lambourne's oldest trees

Tree wardens working with Epping Forest District Council play a unique role. This survey of ancient trees records the many ancient trees in this area of farmland and hedgerows.
Their work involves photographing and recording information about each landmark tree. Details such as age, height, species and position are recorded and entered into a unique database system that allows tree wardens to establish a record of all the trees of special significance.
Some 18 trees such as Oak, Hornbeam and Ash were found to be around 450 years old in this small area. Fourteen ancient trees were recorded in ancient hedgerow in just one day... it seemed as if time had stood still for over 400 years!
