Industry as Art
Industrial photographers go un-noticed

Industrial photographers demonstrated great technical abilities recording the many difficult and dangerous aspects of industry. But perhaps their greatest skill was the ability to demonstrate their artistic flair to portray workers, machinery, factories and the many faces of industry in a visually exciting and dramatic way.
These photographers hold the history of the past in their old files of negatives and transparencies. Large industrial companies have their files full of these images.
Part of ABV's drive is to seek out the very best of these images and create an archive that can be seen by all.
British Industry - the last 50 years - end of an era

Industry has played an important role in Britain and now we see the demise of many of this countries industrial sites. Many areas such as mining, ship building, steel production and local crafts are still alive in the memories of many people in this country.
If you are one of these workers and have pictures or stories to tell... please contact us
Some of our new projects that we would like to commence
Old crafts, dry stone walls
We are starting to collect photographs and examples of dry stone wall techniques. Many places have fine examples of old walls that have been used to fence sheep and cattle, build sheds and outbuildings, made only stone. No cement or mortar has been used and the walls are still standing after many years demonstrating the skills of the craftsmen that built these walls. This is a dying art and ABV wishes to encourage interest in these old crafts.
The Village Blacksmith
The heat of the furnace, iron and sparks create an exciting stage for the images conjured up by the blacksmith. Horseshoes, iron gates, tools and ornamental sculpture all products of this era. Any old pictures of this subject would be welcomed by ABV. Please contact ABV
