Art In The Environment

Through the eyes of a photographer, a painter, a sculptor or poet or musician the subjects and projects that ABV is involved with are driven by a desire to produce only the finest results.

Technical skills, love and creativity are key elements in producing fine works of art. The range of artwork that ABV promotes stems from the exciting projects that it works on, some of this is produced by professional artists with lots of experience, but some of the most sincere works are often produced by ordinary people of all ages who love their subject. The stone sculpture seen here is situated at Chigwell Row Nature Reserve. Created by local sculptor Angela Burgess this is one of four in this woodland commissioned by Epping Forest District Council. Angela works in stone and stainless steel and has produced many works in these materials which can be seen on her own web site.

The Bird Song event organised by Epping Forest Country Care proved to be an entertaining affair. Local school children and Country Care helpers did some fine choreography, play acting and story telling to an avid audience.

Musicians gave a good sample of compositions in the cold night air. The woodland walk was light with over 200 candles and illuminated bird sculptures.
The Home Mead woodland is an area of heath land, heather, scrub and woodland. Since 1999, Epping Forest Countrycare took over the management of this site, the scrub has been managed in a coppice rotation to maximize its value for insects and birds.

The floral communities compose an interesting mix ranging from plants commonly associated with woodland such as Wood Dock, Wood Avens and Bugle and to those more associated with open meadows with plants such as Red Clover, Tormentil, Common Bird's-foot Trefoil and Ragged Robin.
